Sea World part 2

So – I forgot that Beluga Whales are arctic animals. Means they are used to very cold water. Crap – didn’t thin that one through.
I had initially tried to convince The Girl that I didn’t need to go into the water – I could be an observer. Nope. She wouldn’t go for that. I should have tried harder. The things we do for our kids.

First things was getting into our wet suits. They put all the women in a locker room and we had to shout out our dress sizes to get our wet suits. Nice. But – turns out I had the smallest size – I tied with some teenager for a size 10! Yes. Nothing like a trip to the real world to make you realize that Hollywood is not representative of the average woman’s body.

Whoops – turns out that wet suits don’t’ come in vanity sizing and I couldn’t get the stupid thing on. I felt ridiculous trying to pull it up and The Girl was helping me but I think she was starting to get embarrassed by her whale of a mother. Turns out that they had given me an 8 by accident. Ok –not too bad. By the time I finally got dressed I was exhausted and actually looking forward to getting in the cold water.

Then I stepped in it – I got over that feeling really quite. Luckily we didn’t have to be completely submerged and we were just up to our waists on a ledge. I am a complete wuss when it comes to getting wet.

The Beluga was really cool. It was very squishy because of all the insulation they have. It was very different form the dolphins I have interacted with before. The bulge on their head is actually filled with oil and it is used for sonar. Cool.

The Beluga really took a liking to The Girl and hung out with her for most of the visit – that was good. Of course they finished off our experience by having all the Belugas come by and splash us – nice. Very memorable.
