No Power

The movers are coming next week and we will be out for the house by the 20th. I have made all my calls to get the utilities turned off at the end of the month. I was tempted to have them turned off when we leave, but I just don’t’ have it in me. Just because our landlord is a cheap ass doesn’t mean I should be hateful.

Of course, I left things to the last minute – story of my life. When I called TXU on the 6 June and asked that the power be cut off on the end of the month I was told the earliest they could come was the 11 July. Crap – I guess there is a 30 days notice for closing your account.

Fine – no big deal to have it going for a couple extra days – the air won’t be turned on or anything so it should be that much.

Well guess what happened on the 11 June. Yup. Power guy flipped the switch. I call up and they said I requested it – no I asked for the end of the month and was told July. On to the manager and repeat the story. Nope - they insist I was wrong. At this point I don’t’ even care I just want the power back on – 3 days? It is going to take 3 days to start up a new account? Up to the next level manager.

I took very deep breathe and explained the story – AGAIN. I said I called on the 6th. I wouldn’t have agreed to the 10 June. I was told the 11 July – I assumed it was because there was a 30 day waiting period. He agreed that that made sense. Placed the order as a priority order and I should have the power back on after lunch. I was really beginning to loose it with the first guy and the first manager. I wanted to scream “English is my FIRST language!” I know I did yell that I can tell the difference between June and July even if they can’t.

I am glad that I managed to calm down and be rationale when talking to the last guy. Although I can a close call when he was doing the stuff to open a new account and he asked if I wanted him to go ahead and place to order to have the account terminated at the end of the month. ‘NO! How about we get the power turned on before we worry about turning it off again? OK?”

At least I brightened one of my co-workers day – He had a good laugh listening to my end of the exchange.
