When I got home from work I thought I would collect all the water bottles in the car and dump them into the recycling bin. Of course this thought occurs to me when the recycling has already been picked up that morning.
I had a handful of bottles, plus the container I took to work for my lunch. It was awkward carrying them and I just sort of let go of everything over the bin. Lunch container included.
I thought about reaching in and getting it, but I didn’t like the smell and the thought of using the container for food now turned my stomach.
So I left it there. At least it is the recycling bin instead of heading to a landfill.

No Power – a different view
Mike called me when the power went out and I took it form there. He was home with The Girl so he needed to deal with that.
They grabbed the laptops and went t Starbucks. Yes, the 10yr old Girl was sitting in Starbucks checking her e-mail. I guess they got some looks. Don’t get excited – it’s not hers, it’s an old laptop of Mike’s running UBUNTU.
They got bored of that and found an arcade and played some air hockey – the Girl Won.
Then they were hungry so they went to The Girl’s favorite Pizza Place for lunch.
After that they decided to go to the fitness center to go for a swim. The day pass was $35 so Mike said no way and they went down the highway to the water park. It was the same price as just the pool!
They went on water slides, played in the water park, the wave pool and floated on tubes in the lazy river. She even got money to go for an ice cream.
They got ready to leave about the same time I was leaving work and we decided to meet at the house to see if the power was back on – it was.
They ended up pulling into the house right behind me. Great timing.
I asked The Girl how her day turned out – ‘It Sucked! It was a long drive from the Water Park (30 min max) and I had nothing to entertain me!” Guess who went to bed early that night. Mike an I, however, were very entertained by her view of the day. NOT!

No Power
The movers are coming next week and we will be out for the house by the 20th. I have made all my calls to get the utilities turned off at the end of the month. I was tempted to have them turned off when we leave, but I just don’t’ have it in me. Just because our landlord is a cheap ass doesn’t mean I should be hateful.
Of course, I left things to the last minute – story of my life. When I called TXU on the 6 June and asked that the power be cut off on the end of the month I was told the earliest they could come was the 11 July. Crap – I guess there is a 30 days notice for closing your account.
Fine – no big deal to have it going for a couple extra days – the air won’t be turned on or anything so it should be that much.
Well guess what happened on the 11 June. Yup. Power guy flipped the switch. I call up and they said I requested it – no I asked for the end of the month and was told July. On to the manager and repeat the story. Nope - they insist I was wrong. At this point I don’t’ even care I just want the power back on – 3 days? It is going to take 3 days to start up a new account? Up to the next level manager.
I took very deep breathe and explained the story – AGAIN. I said I called on the 6th. I wouldn’t have agreed to the 10 June. I was told the 11 July – I assumed it was because there was a 30 day waiting period. He agreed that that made sense. Placed the order as a priority order and I should have the power back on after lunch. I was really beginning to loose it with the first guy and the first manager. I wanted to scream “English is my FIRST language!” I know I did yell that I can tell the difference between June and July even if they can’t.
I am glad that I managed to calm down and be rationale when talking to the last guy. Although I can a close call when he was doing the stuff to open a new account and he asked if I wanted him to go ahead and place to order to have the account terminated at the end of the month. ‘NO! How about we get the power turned on before we worry about turning it off again? OK?”
At least I brightened one of my co-workers day – He had a good laugh listening to my end of the exchange.

The Boy’s Flight Home
We got up and went for breakfast at IHOP. The Boy’s choice. Of course The Girl wanted Waffle House. I wonder if she will still want it next week when it is hr turn to choose?
The Girl was actually upset that she didn’t get to go to the airport with us. It was easier since I had to get a pass to go through security to wait with him at the gate.
I asked The Boy if he felt like trying the flight on his own so he wouldn’t be an ‘Unaccompanied Minor’ – I though he was going to feel like he was too old for it, especially when he has done the trip so many times.
Nope – he has got the gate stuff down pat and, but he didn’t want to clear customs on his own. Fair enough.
He got his feed of chicken nuggets and some Auntie Anne pretzel sticks while we were waiting. Tradition.
When he got called up for his pre-board he actually gave me a real hug. I am going to miss the little guy, especially since I know that he would rather be hanging out with us. Oh well – he will at least get to spend a bit of time with his friends before we get home.

Last Weekend with The Boy
The Boy is leaving on Tuesday and we will not see him for a month. Three and a half weeks – he checked on the calendar.
He is looking forward to playing football and hanging out with his friends, but he also wants to drive home with us because we are doing cool stuff. Growing up sucks.
We spoiled him for his last weekend – new video games, movies and eating out at his favorite restaurant. Of course, this set The Girl off and she was a nightmare. She doesn’t get that next weekend will be her turn, she is still in the here and now stage. It’s hard to please both of them

Boo!
Every night I go up and get The Girl ready for bed – make sure teeth are brushed, clothes ready for the morning, room is not a total disaster, and do some reading.
When we are done with our routines I call down to Mike so he can come and say goodnight. While I am doing this The Girl hides somewhere to jump out and scare him.
Tonight she snuck through her Jack-and-Jill bathroom and hoped to follow him back into her bedroom and sneak up form behind. This was the first attempt.
The Boy came up with Mike and hung out with me while Mike started searching for The Girl. She delayed too ling in following him in and by the time she snuck in, Mike had gone through the bathroom looking for her. She went after him and them Mike appeared through the bedroom door – they must have done the circuit three times before they figured out why The Boy an I were laughing so hard. No scare tonight, but it was a great laugh.
He best scare was when Mike though Gracie was hiding in her bathroom, but she was actually using it. – they both screamed for real that time! It has been added to “Remember When” series of great family stories.

Leonardo Da Vinci
Pringle can book report.
Almost done – only a few days left of school and one project left to pass in. Of course we left it to the last minute. The Girl has three weeks to work on it – but no – we break out the stuff the day before.
She has read about Leonardo da Vinci before and she knows all about the Mona Lisa so it wasn’t too bad. I read her al the information and she took notes and then worked on her good copy.
I showed her some pictures of Leonardo’s inventions and she decided to turn her Pringles can into his Great bird. Off to Wal-Mart for supplies. We broke out the hot glue gun while she cut out the shapes.
All done.
Nope – you get bonus marks for dressed in like the subject. Crap – I had left al lour costume stuff behind with the rest of the Halloween decorations. I had capes and wigs and beards and heats with feathers – it would have been perfect.
Back to Wal-Mart – but it is out of season for Halloween. We got some fabric and tassels which I glued together and some cotton batting and stuffing to make a beard and hair. We borrowed and awesome hat form the neighbors and pulled together a costume.
We/She got an A+. Awesome. The note on the report said it was one of the best projects presented. She also got praise for her Pringles can – everyone made theirs into a person.
Nice way to end the year – you have to understand that The Girl has Dyslexia an started the year reading at a Grade 1 level. For her to write 2 pages is a big effort and then to be able to read off her note cards and do a presentation is huge. Great progress thanks to some great teachers. I wish we could stay an extra year just for the school.

Last Trip to Six Flags
This is our last trip to Six Flags. It’s sad to think that our time here is ended. But the kids were thrilled. I had made a deal with them – it they agreed not to ask for anything on all our visits – on the last one they would each gt $100 to spend on toys, games, or whatever.
They finally got there money. They bought crap and played games. They even won a fee nice prizes. The Boy won a great Dallas Bear that someone offered him $20 for. He said no – that it was our family keepsake. I was so proud of him.
We got in all our favorite rides. Of course we had to do the bobsled ride – we even bought the picture.
We even got the boy to go on the Flash Back. I thought he was going to pass out he was hyperventilating so bad. He made it though.
Tony’ Hawk’s new ride was open and we got on it twice. It wasn’t bad, but it was disorienting. We got the video of the kids. The Girl looked like Cousin It – all you could see was hair in her face.
It was a good day had by all.

Bike Rally
Since I skipped out on work, I also skipped out on checking my e-mail.
Missed the part about the bike rally of decorated bikes and helmets – tomorrow!
I picked The Girl up form school and got her to her Kumon lesson. On the way we talked about whet to do about her bike.
After Kumon we hit up Wal-Mart and got lots of flowers and ribbons and streamers.
After supper we got all the goodies and her bike out in the driveway. We wrapped the flowers all over he bike and added a few blue ones for a pop of color. We made handle bar tassels out of the curly ribbons and wove the streamers into the wheel spokes.
She was thrilled – But then she went to school
Only a few people decorated bikes and she felt that she stood out too much – even though she got lots of compliments on her bike. She asked that we delete all the pictures we took of her and her bike. I told her that we should keep the pictures because they could help us remember all the fun we had when we decorating the bike. She reluctantly agreed.
At least one good thing happens. She got picked for the Grade 4 Student of the Month – only one out of six classes! She was pretty thrilled and we were very proud.

Day off Work
I got up long enough to fire off an e-mail saying I was sick.
After that I crawled back into bed and slept until he kids came looking for food.
I figured that since I wasn’t going to work, it wouldn’t be fair to send them to school. They agreed.
The Boy was happy to vegetate in front of the computer and play World of Warcraft. He enjoyed the thought that none of his buddies were logged in since they would have been in school
The Girl and I took off and got pedicures.
It’s nice to have them home.

Kids Flight Home
The kids were due in later tonight. On my way hoe I called and chatted with them while they were on their way to the airport.
At home, I really didn’t feel like doing a lot. I was exhausted and even though we talked about going out for supper before picking up the kids I just didn’t feel like it.
The phone rang and I thought it would be the Kids heading to the plane – nope. The flight hadn’t even left Dallas. They were going to be delayed by 4 hours! Not too bad for them – they headed out for supper. But that meant they would be landing at 1am and not home until after 2am.
I went to bed. Hubby woke me to go get the kids when it was time. By the time we got to the airport they were delayed again – due to land at 1:20AM. Luckily they must have gotten in a few minutes early and we met them about 1:15AM. Their bags were the first ones to appear so we got out early.
I had already decided that there was no way I was going to work and it was only far to let the kids stay home an extra day too.
I rock.

Return to Work
It sucks to go back to work after a four day weekend. Especially when you have had an awesome weekend with Hubby in New Orleans and the kids aren’t due home for another day.
The worst part is stepping on the scales. It was a 5 lb trip. Depressing. Hopefully it is bloating due to my period starting. We did tons of walking and drank lots of water and ate really well. Lots of fruit and salads.
Hubby is the best though – he made me a tea to take in the car with me for the drive. I am a get up and go person and it’s an hour drive. I have never had a tea for the road before so it was thoughtful.
The kids get home late tonight. It was a quick trip so hopefully they are not too out of sorts when they get home. The longer they are away, the longer for them to adjust back to normal when they get home.
